Lübeck boys’ choir concert

On Saturday, 5th October at 4.30pm there will be a concert at Central given by the boys’ choir of St Mary’s, Lübeck (Germany) as part of their UK tour.  Following their appearance at Central they will be going on to perform in concerts and worship in a number of other venues around the country, including the cathedrals of Bristol and Coventry.

The history of a boys’ choir singing at St Mary’s, Lübeck, goes back to the seventeenth century and in its current incarnation the choir is celebrating its 65th anniversary.  They will be singing a variety of sacred music dating from the sixteenth century to the present day.

Admission is free.

Celebration concert

On Saturday (21st September) at 2.30 there’ll be a celebration concert at Central.  Philip Paul has reached the milestone of 10 years as our organist and he’s arranged for John Scott Whiteley (organist emeritus at York Minster) to come and play our spectacular organ.  Admission is free (there will be a retiring collection) so please come along and hear one of the finest organs in the area played by one of the finest organists in the area!

Celebration of God’s Call

September sees the start of a new Methodist year and the beginning of the second year of the York Circuit (the local group of Methodist churches Central belongs to).  At 6.30pm on Sunday, 8th September there will be a united circuit service at Central, with the theme A Celebration of God’s Call.

The service will be led by the Chair of the York & Hull District, Revd Stephen Burgess, with our circuit superintendent minister, Revd Philip Turner, preaching.  The service will include a celebration of holy communion.  We will be welcoming a new circuit minister, Revd Ian Hill, and hearing news about the introduction of a pilot scheme for local pastoral ministry and the district’s youth interns who are based in our circuit.
