Advent Talks 2012
We continue our regular Wednesday lunchtime series of talks this year with reflections on Advent from a variety of speakers:
On Wednesday, 5th December we welcome Revd Elizabeth Cushion. Elizabeth is a minister in the York Methodist Circuit who joined us this September from the Newcastle West Circuit.
On Wednesday, 12th December we welcome Revd Matthew Porter. Matthew is vicar of St Michael-le-Belfrey Church of England.
On Wednesday, 19th December, we welcome Nicky Gladstone. Nicky has recently started work as project leader at Carecent, the project for the homeless which is based here at Central.
The talks all start at 12.45 and a light lunch is provided in the hall from 11.45 if you’re able to come early. Everyone is welcome.
Church anniversary
We celebrate our anniversary on the first Sunday in November, celebrating the years since the union of the Centenary and Wesley congregations and further to the earlier history of Methodism in York. This year, we invited Revd Maurice Staton to take our morning service. Maurice was a minister in this circuit some years ago and continues with chaplaincy work at St Leonard’s hospice in York. Maurice preached about newness in the church and after the service joined us for lunch in the hall.
In the evening we had a “local arrangements” service, led by a group from our congregation on the theme of looking back and moving forward. There is a lot of change happening in York Methodism at the moment, not least at Central, so we took the opportunity to step back for a moment and spend some time in quietness and prayer to help us as we take new steps in faith.
Carecent in the Press
Following her commissioning service at Central last Sunday, the new Carecent project manager Nicky Gladstone appears in the Press, welcoming volunteers from York CVS to Carecent as part of National Make a Difference Day. You can read the article at the York Press website.
